Some launches mean more because you know what it took to get there. ARIX Helios (opens in a new tab) is one of those: a platform Ximplicity designed and built as a contractor alongside ARIX Technologies (opens in a new tab)' engineering team, now live and in the hands of asset-integrity professionals.
Helios takes corrosion-under-insulation (CUI) inspection — one of the hardest problems in refineries and other critical facilities — and gives it the one thing raw inspection data usually lacks: context.
Findings only mean something in their place
A reading is just a number until you know exactly where on the asset it came from. Helios builds an interactive 3D digital twin of the piping and places every finding on it, at the point where it was collected. Pulsed Eddy Current (PEC), Real-Time Radiography (RTR) and remote visual inspection stop being three separate reports and become three views of the same location, side by side.
That changes the conversation. Instead of reconciling spreadsheets, a team can stand in front of the asset — virtually — compare what each method saw at the same spot, and open the supporting images and video right there. The evidence travels with the geometry.
From more data to better decisions
Robotic and remote techniques collect more data, and more precise data, than anyone could before. The value was never in collecting it; it is in turning it into something an integrity decision can rest on. By correlating findings against the real asset, Helios feeds risk-based inspection programs with evidence that is actually comparable over time, and it reduces how often people need scaffolding or rope access to reach a reading — which is safer, faster and cheaper.
What Ximplicity built, and how
Helios is a full product, and Ximplicity's involvement spanned all of it: Product Design and UX Design, Solution Architecture, Full-Stack Development, Software Project Management and Scrum Master, Testing and QA, Security and DevOps.
The architecture reflects that breadth. The web client is built in Angular, rendering the 3D digital twin and the correlated inspection overlays. The backend runs on ASP.NET Core 10, with Python services for the data and computer-vision work behind the findings. RabbitMQ carries the asynchronous processing, Redis handles caching and fast lookups, and inspection media — the images and video attached to each point — is stored on S3. Identity and multi-organization access control are handled with Keycloak, so each operator sees only their own assets.
The platform is containerized and deployed with Docker Compose and Docker Swarm, and the whole infrastructure is described as code with Terraform, so an environment is reproducible rather than hand-assembled.
None of those choices are decorative. CUI inspection data is sensitive, it arrives in bursts, it carries heavy media, and it has to stay trustworthy for years. The stack is what lets the product be fast, secure and maintainable while it keeps growing in production.
Built with partners, and with trust
Helios was built in collaboration with other development teams, and a large part of our job was making everyone's work fit together. For our partners we took on the specification, the project management, the integration and the testing — bringing their backend code and their DevOps work, along with the other tools that make up the Helios solution, into a single coherent product. Their contribution was essential, and we genuinely value it.
We are just as grateful to ARIX Technologies for the opportunity and the trust they have placed in us over the past years, and especially on this project. Work like this only happens when a client lets you own the hard parts alongside their own team — and that confidence is something we do not take for granted.
See it in context
The point of Helios is that inspection findings finally sit where they belong — on the asset, next to each other, ready to be reasoned about. Asset-integrity professionals who want to see what that looks like on their own piping can request a demo from ARIX Technologies (opens in a new tab).
